About Lake-Rescue.org

The National Lake Rescue Institute (NLRI) was launched as a non-governmental organisation in 2002 as a result of several major accidents and incidents on Lake Victoria. Accurate statistics regarding deaths on water in the region are not available, but are estimated to run in to the thousands. Lake Victoria is arguably the most dangerous stretch of water in the world in terms of fatalities per square kilometre.
