year and is still growing. The saying goes: "You can not please all the people all the time". Well…. with our varied programme of drama, music exhibitions, walks and talks, films and street parties and simple good old family fun, we must come fairly close.
The annual Festival has evolved out of a vast range of arts initiatives that have flourished in Leytonstone for decades. The London Borough of Waltham Forest (LBWF) and Waltham Forest Arts Council (WFAC) funded the ‘Forest Festival’ until the early 1990s. Other arts initiatives nurtured in local libraries, pubs, community halls, religious venues, and outdoors - during the annual Cathall Festival, also paved the way for a community Festival throughout Leytonstone.
In 1995 the Leytonstone Festival began to take shape. Arts events throughout Leytonstone were brought under the umbrella of the newly created Festival programme co-ordinated by WFAC. The following year, the Leytonstone Festival Association was formed. Anyone can now join the Festival Association - over 45 community groups, not for profit organisations, local businesses, and individuals have contributed to the development of the 2006 Festival programme.
