The idea for LIMANY was around long before it establishment as Mandingo Association. On this darkest day of Liberian history, 1990, all the Liberian Mandingoes in New York City assembled at Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Turay's residence, after seeing the brutal and barbaric killing of a Liberian woman and her child. The reason given by the murdered was that the woman and her child were Mandingoes and Moslems as reported by BBC.

The need for organizing ourselves and consoling each other could not be over emphasized. And this was the birth of the Liberian Mandingo people organization, called the Mandingo Association, chaired by Mr. Abraham Turay. A year after its founding, Mandingo Association elected its first elected President, Mr. Bangalee Fofana.
