I’m Erica Olsen. I run this site. I was born in Flint, MI. I live in Ithaca, NY. I am a librarian.* I work in a digital library at Cornell University as the User Experience Designer on an IT team. Guess that makes me a Geekbrarian.
Librarian Avengers started in 1997 with an essay titled Why you should fall to your knees and worship a librarian. The overwhelming response from the amazing and warm library community was one of the things that propelled me into grad school. I blogged grad school (I promise to put the archives up someday), made some t-shirts, and now there’s this. The site is run on WordPress, with a custom template based on FastTrack.
The name Librarian Avengers was adapted from the Lesbian Avengers, a group of activists whose hellraising ability I admire greatly. I first learned about them as an undergrad working in the Michigan State University’s American Radicalism collection, a place to which I owe many great things, including my love of comics, my first Cutter Chart, several Professional Heroes, and the chance to hold a first edition copy of The House on Pooh Corner.
