LicensePlates.cc was conceived, designed, and programmed in the spring of 2001 by John B. Northup, then a graduate student in computer-human interaction at the University of Michigan, as an exercise in usability-driven interface design and virtual community building.
LicensePlates.cc seeks to transcend the stereotypical "broadcast" model of a collector website. Rather than merely showcasing a single collector's perspective, LicensePlates.cc seeks to create an engaging forum where license plate hobbyists can interact with each other in a variety of contexts:
About the Webmaster
John B. Northup is the proprietor of Bannister Design LLC, a web design and hosting firm in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and also serves on the staff of the Internet Public Library. John holds a Master's in information science from the University of Michigan and an undergraduate degree in communications from Goddard College.
