Lifeline USA

Description

In 1973, Bobby Hinds was selling insurance, making decent money, but getting more and more out of shape. As a former NCAA boxing champion in the 1950's for The University of Wisconsin, Bobby knew that jumping rope was great exercise, so he started jumping again. Wanting to be his own boss, Bobby started making jump ropes out of his backyard, wrote an instructional booklet for it, and started selling them any way he could, whether it was jumping rope in the aisle of a plane or on a street corner in downtown New York. This type of unorthodox behavior landed him on TV shows such as The Mike Douglas Show, The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson and On The Road With Charles Kuralt. People wanted Bobby's jump rope, and he could not keep quantities on the shelf in department stores like J.C Penney and Montgomery Ward. To keep up with demand, Bobby had to move into a legitimate manufacturing facility, and Lifeline USA was born.

While the jump rope became Bobby's best-selling product, he wanted to develop a piece of equipment that could provide a full-body workout, but small enough and light enough to be completely portable. After several improvements over the years, we know this product as the Lifeline Deluxe Gym, which consists of a Fitness Cable, Lifting Bar, Treadmill Belt, Door Attachment, Carrying Bag and instructional booklet and video. In order to be completely portable, Bobby selected rubber surgical tubing to provide resistance, instead of weights. Over the years, in scientific studies, it has been proven that "pumping rubber" is better than pumping iron for improving overall functional fitness both aerobically and anaerobically.

As Lifeline USA continued to grow and Bobby developed new products, in the mid 1980's Bobby's son Jon graduated from college, received several certifications in the field of exercise science, moved to California and became the strength coach of the Los Angeles Clippers. He was also the personal trainer for many Hollywood stars, including Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson, and Bruce Springsteen. But, after several years in Tinseltown, Jon decided to move back to Wisconsin and start his own fitness center. The Monkey Bar Gym www.monkeybargym.com was the first fitness center in the Midwest that features no weights or machines, but uses body weight and Lifeline products for all the exercise routines.
