Limavady College
Description
Limavady College is at a unique period in its history. It has just completed a £2 million refurbishment project at its main site on Main Street which included a new Learning Resource Centre costing £500,000 and is about to embark on a £7 million building programme over the next eighteen months.
A new £3.5 million Centre for Technology on the former HUCO site on the Greystone Road is currently under development, this was purchased by the College in November 2002. This will be (change to this will be) a state of the art Centre which offers education and training for young people and adults in the areas of Engineering, Software Engineering, Construction and Rural Crafts. Employer organisations such as the CITB (Construction Industry & Training Board) have already given their full support to this development which they see as critical to the success of the regional economy. The College plans to offer short courses for industry as well as offering its well-established range of nationally recognised vocational awards.
A second major project, which involves building an extension to the main College, will run concurrently. This will provide new teaching facilities for the vocational areas of Hairdressing and Beauty, Health and Social Care and Sports Science. The aim is to build teaching spaces which are more like the workplace than a conventional classroom. The ground floor of this new block will consist of a Hairdressing and Beauty salon which can be accessed by the public, a crèche and a special needs unit with its own retail facility.
