Fellowship for the Performing Arts (FPA) was incorporated as a Christian arts ministry designed to support Max McLean’s commitment to present the Bible through the dramatic arts. FPA’s objective is to demonstrate that engaging theatre and insightful storytelling offer a transparent view of the events and characters that have made the Bible the most enduringly powerful book in history. The New York Times describes FPA’s work as “exploring the theatrical possibilities of storytelling without being so obvious to remind one that these are indeed the greatest stories in the world."
Since 1991 FPA has produced Bible on Stage events from the biblical books of Genesis, Mark’s Gospel ,The Acts of the Apostles, Revelation, John’s Gospel, Daniel and a dance-drama about Women of the Bible called Shattered Silhouettes. These events have been staged off-Broadway in New York’s Lamb’s Theatre, Pegasus in Chicago, Edinburgh (UK) Fringe Theatre Festival, Stratford Festival Theatre, A.D. Players in Houston and the Dallas Theatre Center. National tours include dozens of college and university events including Brown, Smith, Duke and Johns Hopkins; and houses of worship of all denominations.
FPA also produces a daily radio program called Listen to the Bible that can be heard on 650 radio affiliates worldwide; and a line of audio and video products including The Listener’s Bible, that was nominated by the Audio Publisher’s Association (APA) for four Audie Awards, APA’s highest honor.
