1981: Literacy activities on the West Island began with one student and one volunteer. 1982-1990: The West Island Reading Efficiency Services (W.I.R.E.S.) was formed and eventually grew. This group did the ground work and applied for charitable status under the name "Literacy Unlimited." 1992- 1993: Literacy Unlimited was recognized by the Provincial Government as a corporation and received its patent letters.[[Category:]]
