LITTLE MISS SOUTH CAROLINA

Description

Little Miss South Carolina is one of South Carolina's oldest pageant systems for children and young adults. It was founded in 1970 by the late Linda Floyd in Sumter, South Carolina. Over $35,000 in scholarships will be awarded at the 2006 State Pageant, in addition to the beautiful crowns, scepters, trophies, monogrammed banners and other prizes.

The 2005 Little Miss South Carolina pageant had 168 contestants participate representing all areas of the state. We promote community service and academic excellence as well as encouraging poise and positive self-esteem in our contestants. Good sportsmanship is a must at all LMSC pageants. We also stress age-appropriateness in hair, make-up and dress for all ages. Our judges are told to judge the child and not the clothes. On the state level, contestants ages 5-19, have a private interview with the judges. Interview counts as 50% of their total beauty score.

LMSC is partnered with Palmetto Health Children's Hospital and donates a portion of the ad sales from the pageant to the hospital each year. Our winners make numerous appearances and entertain throughout the state of South Carolina, along with being involved with the Festival of Trees at the State Museum, a fundraiser for the Children's Hospital. Our winners (ages 5 & up) have also been granted an audience with Governor Mark Sanford for the past two years to discuss community service and education. We also showcase our State Royalty in South Carolina's two televised parades: the Carolina Carillon Christmas Parade in Columbia and the Sun Fun Parade in Myrtle Beach.
