LondonWaterFilters.co.uk installs water filtration systems to kitchen sinks in London UK

London Water Filters

kitchen-sink-demo2.jpg

We supply and install under-sink water filtration systems to homes and offices in across London. The procedure takes roughly 30 minutes. Once done, the plumber will also show you how easy it is to change the filter cartridges.

The system will come ready with a replaceable filter cartridge that will last for 6 months. This filter is composed of granular activated carbon. Because London tap water is deemed 'hard', the filter cartridge is fully equipped to remove excessive limescale. The brand of the cartridge is Pentek, and it works on removing bad odour and strange tastes too.

While the business is registered in West London (Baywaster), our current plumber lives at North West London (Kensal Green). So extra travel calculations are deduced from his current address at NW10.

Prices starts at £97 + travel. And it will include:

  • A standard filtered water dispenser
  • An activated carbon filter with limescale control (lasts for 6 months)
  • Instructions how to change the filter cartridge (really easy!)
  • All necessary plumbing and drilling (cutting through stone worktop is extra)

Our plumber is fully certified and insured.

Installation Procedure

The water filtration system will be installed under your kitchen sink. A filtered water dispenser of your choice will be mounted above.

For a successful installation we need enough room under your kitchen sink. Given that the parts are relatively small, installation shouldn't be a problem on most cases. This will be discussed with you over the phone.

The system is ideal for home & office kitchens. But it is also possible to have our water filtration system installed on any premise, provided there is access to a cold water mains and a flat drillable surface where the water dispenser can be placed.

Filtration System Components

The water filtration system can be divided into 4 distinct components:

  • Drinking water dispenser
  • Housing Bracket
  • Water Filter Cartridge
  • Saddle Valve
Drinking Water Dispenser

Where this new water dispenser is fitted depends very much on the material of your skin and that of your work-top.

If your kitchen sink is made of resin or stainless steel, then we recommend fitting the water dispenser over the rim of the sink itself. A hole will be drilled and the new tap will be mounted and secured with a nut and a washer.

If your kitchen sink is composed of porcelain (china) or ceramic. Then we recommend having your new water dispenser fitted through the worktop instead. Close enough to the sink basin, with the spout hanging over so to collect any accidental drips.

The Housing Bracket

This is the head of the filtration unit. It connects two tubings: a red one – that feeds unfiltered water into the system. And a blue one – that delivers freshly filtered water to the water dispenser above.

The housing bracket can be fitted against the wall of your kitchen cabinet, at the back or at the side. We may need to drill a further hole to the inner wall of the cabinet since one of the tubes needs to access the water mains.

Water Filter Cartridge

The filter cartridge looks like a blue cylinder. It contain a white screwing top with black rubber O-rings. The cartridge is detachable and very easy to replace. Embossed arrows both at the top of the cartridge and the housing units aids the person with the operation.

The make of the filter cartridge used is Pentek, a world renowned filter manufacturer. Unless instructed otherwise, we recommend changing this cartridge every 6 months.

The Saddle Valve

This is attached to your mains cold water pipe. Before changing the water filter cartridge we also recommend switching the water flow to the unit by rotating the needle tap. This will stop any unwanted water pressure from building up. Caution is is needed not to over-tighten when operating.

Granular Activated Carbon - Water Filter Cartridge

The capacity of the water filter cartridge is of 6500 litres or 6 months of usage. A safe measure and generous measure even for a thirsty family of six members. Should drinking water consumption be much higher (such as in an office environment) the plumber will recommend shorter time-expirations dates to work with.

Should there be unplanned and prolonged over-consumption of drinking water, the system will alert that it is time to change the filter cartridge by a sudden drop in water flow.

Our filters are easy to change with no need for further assistance. A printout manual will be given to you. The procedure can be performed in less than 2 minutes.

Comparison with other Drinking Water Systems
Our own Water Filtration system

The filtration system that we use is particularly good at removing chlorine and it's by-products. London water quality by itself is deemed one of the best of the world. So we wont' scare people in believing that home-use filters are necessary to remove toxins and bacteria since this is dealt already at the water plant processing stage. Our filters are capable, no doubt, but it's specialises in improving the taste and aroma of London tap water. Which some people find unpalatable. Our purpose is to persuade people to not buy & store crates of plastic water bottles since that is far from necessary but worse very nasty to the environment.

Our water filtration system also tackles limescale. Your tea, coffee & beverages will taste much better. Some finding even cooking with freshly filtered water improves the taste of food.

The other advantage with your filtration system is that it removes the bad stuff while keeping the good stuff. And the good stuff are mineral & electrolytes which are necessary to have in micro-quantities otherwise drinking water taste bland and lacks life. Consuming over-purified near-distilled water is bad for your health. If you have another filtration system such as Reverse Osmosis - it is recommended you re-mineralise the water prior to drinking.

Here's a list of the essential minerals and electrolytes that should be presence in trace amounts in drinking water:

  • Sodium
  • Potassium
  • Cadmium
  • Zinc
  • Phosphorus
  • Magnesium
  • Selenium
  • Manganese
  • Copper
  • Chromium
  • Molybdenum
  • Chloride (in electrolyte form ie as in a neutral salt)

Our system needs no electricity to operate. It is very eco-friendly that way. Because it so accessible (next to the kitchen sink) - it encourages both adults and children to drink more water.

Limescale control - means your kettles won't fur, espressos and coffee machines won't clog up as before. No more, unslightly floating scums on the surface of your hot teas.

Filtration is instantaneous - drinking water is dispensed generously, no need to wait. Water flow is relative high 2.8 litres/minute. Remember this is delicious freshly filtered water we are talk about.

Now let's look at other solutions to drinking water:

London Tap Water

London water is perfectly healthy and safe to drink. The quality is hailed as one of the best in the world. Surpassing even that of many mineral water brands. However depending on your location, you may disagree with the taste and smell. This is often due to the chlorine present.

So while London water is safe, if you can sense a funny after-taste or smell - it may give the false impression it is not. Hence people flock to buy expensive plastic water bottle instead.

If you are perfectly happy with drinking water directly from the tap. We would even encourage you to remain doing this; because truly London tap water is by far the best solution over all. However we do offer our filtration system for those who present a personal problem with London water, but don't want to hurt the environment. Also our solution is vastly cheaper than bottled water, working out at 1p per litre!

Note that limescale is often another nuisance in London water. So you may have our system as an easy way to descale tap water

Filtering Water Jugs

Filter jugs are designed to remove sediments and particulates from water. Some are equipped with limescale control. Most are also granular activated carbon based.

The problem with these jugs is convenience. For example filtration takes time, and you ofter find it empty when you are thirsty. Regular cleaning is another issue.

Reverse Osmosis

This is a more expensive filtration system. It can't be deemed environmentally-friendly since much water is wasted - over 85%.

More worryingly so with reverse osmosis, water tends to be over-purified. While this may appear to be a good thing - it is not. Because essential minerals and electrolytes are removed giving you a near distilled water. The taste is bland. And some even believe it may pose a threat to your health. Such advice is given by the Department of Health, World Health Organisation, including the Drinking Water Inspectorate - London.

Reverse Osmosis is suitable though if you have a hobby such as photography or an aquarium with exotic fish.

To ensure health it is often advised you re-mineralise your water that has been filtered via Reverse Osmosis.

Notice also that in the UK - by law you will need a permit to have a Reverse Osmosis machine installed. Other modes of water filtration: under-sink and filter-jugs do not need such official approval.
