Title

League of Women Voters of Palo Alto

Description

The League of Women Voters grew out of the movement to get women the right to vote and honors that history by keeping the name although membership includes both men and women. The League of Women Voters of Palo Alto serves the Palo Alto and Stanford University communities. It is one of the many local Leagues active in communities large and small throughout the United States. Together, they form the League of Women Voters of the United States—a national, grassroots, nonpartisan organization with more than 80 years of experience in practical democracy. LWV Palo Alto was established in 1939.

Nonpartisan, but political

The League of Women Voters encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
