Description

Misty did her undergraduate studies a t the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Architectural Studies in 1997. She furthered her architectural education at Texas A&M University and received a Master of Architecture in 1999. Her focus in graduate school was energy efficient and sustainable design. She is currently employed as an architectural designer with KG&D Architects in Mount Kisco, NY.

She started building models in her first year of school. She built a residential house made out of white museum board. Each model she did after that was more complex and more detailed. She went on to make site models to supplement the building models, and progressed to making complete models where the roof is removable to expose the finished interior of the building. She did many models in basswood but her thesis model was done in several different materials to best represent the true material of the building. She has done numerous study models using museum board and foam core.

Her thesis model, the Benny J. Simpson Memorial Visitor Center, won first place in the student division at the Northeastern Sustainable Building Association design competition. The model was featured in the May 2000 issue of Environmental Building News. Other articles written about the project were featured in a Texas A&M newsletter and also on the website of the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association.
