Title

Made By England, Birdhouses

Description

The artist, L. H. (Tony) England, is a native of the North Georgia Mountains. Born in Chatsworth, Georgia, he now resides in Jasper. His art got its first public exposure when he was twelve at the Prater's Mill Antique show in Dalton, Georgia where he drew "Coat of Arms" with the requested family name. He went on to paint the program cover for the Ft. Mountain Garden Club and to design and supervise a 16X36 foot poster of a "Gone With the Wind" scene for the senior ball. Over the years, he has been involved in advertising with various corporations and entities including advertising for a newspaper in New York. Many of his pen and ink drawing have been displayed in various museums around the US. His artistic abilities are all self-taught in perspective and visual design utilizing literature on 18th and 19th century architecture and etchings.

His interest in and enjoyment from playing with wooden blocks lead to the current building of birdhouses. Being an antique dealer for years, his artistic style reflects his interest in items and materials from yesteryear. He travels around looking high and low for just the right pieces to complete these wonderful works of art. All his creations are one-of-a-kind, signed, numbered, and dated. He strives to preserve as much of the old, natural beauty of the wood that he uses. He also takes special orders on custom built birdhouses to replicate that special home place or landmark.

One picture below shows Tony at a recent antique show at the Goodwood Plantation and Museum in Tallahassee, Florida. He sets up at the Scott's Antique Market in Atlanta the second weekend of every month and does various other shows across the US. The other picture below captures Tony as he looks for just the right wood to complement his birdhouses and other projects.
