Description
I began making mosaics because I wanted to do something different. After leaving the workforce to devote more time to my family, I struggled to find some balance. Not having the validation of a performance evaluation left me wanting something I could do and see my accomplishment.
I started with the idea that I would make mosaics of “found” objects or use broken china. My first project was a pot which I used plates and floor tile from my sister’s recently remodeled countertops. I loved working with the tile because it was flat. The china proved to be more challenging because of the thickness and the curves. I checked out all of the mosaic books from the library, some of them more than once. I started ordering vitreous mosaic tiles to try them out as well. I then found a mosaic supplier in town and decided to take a class. I was so excited I could hardly wait! I decided to make a few more pieces before I was to take a “How to” class so I would have questions ready. After taking the class at Witsend Mosaic with owner and artist, Susan Jeffreys, I realized there was a lot to learn. I also became hooked on micromosaic tiles. Since then I have also started using mirror, stained glass and sometimes found objects such as shells or beads.
My mosaics that are wall art are sealed and weather proof. Mosaics on mesh are also available to be installed for either the floor or on an object. Whether you want to hang it on the block wall out back so you’re not looking at a plain block wall or if you want to jazz up your kitchen, “Magnificent Mosaics is where your Dreams become Art.”
