Description
Makahiki Farms grows, harvests and sells 100% Kona Coffee on a small farm in the district of South Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. The farm is located at 1000 feet of elevation in the prime Kona coffee belt just above Kealakekua Bay. The volcanic soil of the Kona Coast along with sunny warm mornings and cloudy damp afternoons are ideal for producing the best coffee in the world.
The trees were planted in the Fall of 2000 and cover approximately four acres. They were planted 6 feet apart in hedge rows that are 12 feet apart. The farm is completely irrigated and given all the fertilizer and water necessary to grow big, high-quality coffee cherry. The trees have grown tall and healthy and will live for many years, perhaps 100 years or more.
Makahiki Farms is owned by Jonathan and Nancy Sechrist. We currently live in a tiny house in Kailua-Kona and are building a home on the farm this year. The farm is warm, breezy and peaceful with a great view of the ocean. We spend a great deal of time there - almost every day - and can't wait to live among our beautiful trees.
