Description
One site, located at Foxdale, broadcasts on the AM (Medium Wave) band and covers the whole Island. Three sites, however, are needed for Island-wide coverage on the FM (VHF) band.
For most of the time the programmes are the same on each frequency but there are times during the week when different programmes are broadcast on FM from those on AM. These include the morning and late afternoon current affairs programmes Mandate and Update, together with parliamentary broadcasts and other occasional events. This is when you need to know how to change from one to the other.
Almost all radios these days are capable of receiving both AM and FM transmissions. Many also receive Long Wave transmissions but Manx Radio does not broadcast on this band.
