- The Martha Foundation was established to provide a permanent assisted-living solution to families and caregivers of mildly developmentally challenged adults. Founded by Maria Read in June 2004, the organization is named after Martha, a 50-year-old woman with developmental disabilities-and a childhood friend of Read.
