Description

How does someone with a couple of degrees in biology end up as a graphic designer? Scientists are visual people. During the process of discovery they observe the shape, color, texture, organization, and structure of everything from the micro to the macular in the natural world. I didn't realize that connection until I got to where I am now.

After graduating with a BS in biology from Bowling Green State University in Ohio I worked for several years in the biological sciences: identifying mosquitoes for a mosquito abatement district in Toledo, Ohio (I was the "Mosquito Lady" on the radio), working for the Department of Oral Biology at The University of Michigan, becoming a research assistant in the Department of Physiology at the University of Michigan, and working as a research assistant/electronmicrocroscopist in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan.

While completing an MS in biology from Eastern Michigan University, I also took classes in computer programming, technical writing, and journalism. At the urging of a friend I found a job as a technical writer for a company specializing in documentation for the computer and medical instrumentation industry. I soon moved into project management. Three years later I was managing the communications department for a high-tech company that produced software and instrumentation for protein science research. I also began a side position as a copy editor for a medical journal. Several years later I took another project management position at an Ann Arbor, MI firm that provided marketing and training to the computer reseller channel.
