John McManamy is a former financial journalist with a law degree. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1999 at age 49 following a suicidal depression and a lifetime of denial. Soon after, as a means of coming to terms with his illness, he started up an email Newsletter, then this Website The Website and Newsletter is a full-time endeavor. In 2004, as a Connecticut resident, he was honored with a public service award in recognition for this Website and Newsletter by the state's Psychiatric Society, NAMI, and Department of Mental Health.
Now residing in New Jersey, John McManamy co-facilitates a DBSA support group in Princeton. In 2004, he married for the second time. He has a grown daughter, Emily, from his first marriage.
