Safe replacements for Caustic soda for degreasing and cleaning both in emulsifiers and non-emulsifiers so oils can be removed from the waste water and recycled while the spent solution is safe for sewers.

Nanty Glo, PA – December 8, 2009 – MEC Chemicals introduces a line of safe chemicals to pickle steel by eliminating caustic sodas, mineral acids and waste oils for corrosion inhibition. MEC Chemicals sells and uses all USDA approved alkaline cleaners, degreasers, organic acids that can be rejuvenated and water based corrosion inhibitors. These inhibitors need not be removed before coating, painting or plating. MEC’s products are non-toxic, biodegradable and are not flammable.
MEC Chemicals also provides dip tank cleaning services utilizing their green chemicals. The main steps involved in the dip tank process are: degreasing, paint removal, rinsing, pickling and inhibiting.
MEC’s products and services assist industrial users by reducing their costs associated with hazardous material disposal, maintaining compliance with environmental and human safety regulations, and reduces insurance expense.
Bethlehem Steel of Johnstown, PA, conducted extensive testing on their pickling line utilizing our organic acid, Scale Gone 55. The results showed the Scale Gone 55 worked just as well as the hydrochloric and sulfuric acids. In a letter to MEC Chemicals, Bethlehem Steel acknowledged that Scale Gone 55 was a viable alternative to their mineral acids.
In November of 2009, MLP Steel LLC, of Scottdale , PA shipped 3 rolls of various grades of steel to MEC’s facility to test our cleaning and pickling process. Preliminary results show a successful outcome and further tests are now being conducted on the processed wire. Jeff Pfeifer, Division President of MLP Steel, Fayette was present to oversee the testing. Mr. Pfeifer is also a Director of the Small Manufacturers Council. Mr. Pfeifer stated he is pleased with the results of the testing to this point and is awaiting results from the plating industry.
