TriVillage Mentor League
Description
The TriVillage Mentor League was conceived in 1994 by a task force of community leaders in Grandview Heights, Marble Cliff and Upper Arlington. When service delivery began in 1997, the TriVillage Mentor League functioned as an independent entity. But it soon became evident that a partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters would be beneficial since our efforts and goals were near identical.
Since 1998 the TriVillage Mentor League has been an independently funded program of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio, Inc. Since our association with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the TriVillage Mentor League has provided more than 75 successful one-to-one matches.
Our services are free. The cost of matching one child is approximately $1,250 and is covered by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio, Inc. This cost includes the following services: Extensive screening of our adult volunteers including a comprehensive background check, time getting to know the family, and the careful matching and monitoring of the relationship between the child and adult volunteer. This cost does not include the approximately $150-$200 value of referral service per match provided by the TriVillage Mentor League. Currently we have 23 plus children matched with adult mentors. There is presently a waiting list of children in the TriVillage area who need mentors.
