Merlin Music was originally established in Lancashire in 1997. Two years later we moved to Easdale Island - the smallest inhabited island in the Inner Hebrides, and a beautiful, tranquil setting for the production and playing of musical instruments.
The island is about half a mile wide by half a mile long, and boasts a permanent population of 60 people and one pub, the Puffer Bar. It is set just off the north-west tip of Seil Island, and an open ferry boat transports people and goods across the water in a trip taking just three minutes. Our workshop is located at the rear of our cottage and bears the name of 'The Crystal Palace', which reflects the nature of its construction. All potential customers are welcome to visit the workshop, where we make all our instruments. The low D whistles and flutes are traditional six-holed instruments which are tunable. Future developments include whistles and flutes in tenor G, F and Bb, and these will be added to our site when they are available. We have also developed the three-key tri-ganger and four-key quad-ganger harmonicas, which are very versatile instruments. In addition to the standard keys supplied, customers can also make their own individual choice from the keys listed on the order form. Merlin electric fiddles are custom made to order only.
