The Mermaid Bay Soap Company began in 1987 as a small family business, based in Whangarei, in New Zealand’s beautiful Northland.
At first it was because friends and family thought it was just marvellous! It was lovely to use, smelt great and didn’t leave any soap scum to be cleaned off the shower - this is a little mentioned side effect of using handmade soap! More importantly, life-long problems of dry, itchy skin disappeared and the soap didn't irritate one of the family members psoriasis.
People often ask if there is a “Mermaid Bay”? No, there isn’t. They had fallen in love with the little mermaid an artist friend, Sally Fagence, had drawn for them. They also felt Mermaid Bay would be a memorable name.
