Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is a highly aggressive form of cancer that is caused by asbestos and certain other carcinogens. It is incredibly difficult to diagnose because of its lengthy latency period between exposure to the carcinogen and presentation of symptoms. This latency period can often last as long as 30 to 50 years. Because of this, we are still diagnosing mesothelioma as a result of exposure to asbestos in the 1960s and 1970s. Unfortunately there is no cure for mesothelioma yet. However, there are treatments that can be very helpful for some people. If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, it is important that you stay in contact with your doctor and contact us at 800-781-3955
Asbestos
Asbestos is a fibrous substance that, when broken down, is small enough to be inhaled without much notice. For decades, the substance was used in construction and other projects because of its flame retardant nature. Because of this, many construction workers, dock and shipyard workers and other groups were exposed to large amounts of asbestos. While the substance was mostly banned in the US in the 1970s, it is still in use in some areas and is still a risk for exposure.
Unfortunately, asbestos may not be the only cause of mesothelioma. Studies have shown that the minerals erionite and tremolite may act in a very similar fashion to asbestos.
Legal Options
If you have been exposed to asbestos or have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, you do have some recourse. Our attorneys may be able to help you hold accountable the parties responsible for your exposure. This can help ensure that others will not be injured in the same way in the future and can help you pay for your medical treatments. For more information about your legal options, contact us today.
