The very first Mikkimugs were produced in 1975 by Michael Wood, father of Sam Wood the present owner of Mikkimugs. These early Mikkimugs were hand decorated enamel mugs that had to be individually fired but soon increasing demand meant that production built up and a larger kiln was purchased. In the following ten years Mikkimugs produced thousands of enamel mugs and plates for such diverse customers as The Pussers Rum Company of America, The Royal Academy, Lord Montague of Beaulieu, as well as hundreds of shops and retailers.
The change from enamel to plastic started in 1981 and by 1990 the last enamel mugs had given way to plastic with The National Trust becoming one of Mikkimugs most important, and largest customers. All Mikkimugs plastic items are moulded in Dorset using our own tools, the range having been built up to include plates, bowls, tumblers, cutlery, trays, egg cups and plaques.
