Mind of Hope CLP, Inc.

Description

Mind of Hope CLP, Inc. was founded in 1998 by M. Russell Thomas, PhD. Dr. Thomas felt the need to establish community-based services for the individuals with severe & persistent mental illnesses. The Community Center of Hope began in Chapel Hill with 7 clients. Services included group & individual therapy. The services continue today and focus on enhancing independent living skills in the community through support and the teaching of coping skills. Currently services are delivered in Raleigh and Chapel Hill. Future plans include establishing a day program, vocational services, research programs, and eventually residential services. Also, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is offered to those suffering from chronic feelings of suicide and hopelessness.

In 2000, Mind of Hope CLP, Inc. was granted 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. Since that time Dr. Thomas and the organizations' Board of Directors have desired to address a broader range of issues facing the community. Among these issues, marriage & family counseling, psychological assessment/evaluation & diagnosis, substance abuse, and treating survivors of abuse have become a priority for services. The Sound Mind Counseling Center (SMCC) saw its first client in April of 2002 and continues to serve individuals, couples and families in the Triangle area. Future plans include adding staff with specialty areas of practice and establish a full range of substance abuse services. All services are delivered within a distinctively Christian model of treatment, integrating faith with the practice of psychotherapy.

Finally, Passion-4-Purity is a dynamic program designed to challenge preteens, teens and parents to make healthy, informed decisions throughout the adolescent years. The program includes a weekend rally and contemporary information on critical issues facing today's youth. Peer pressure, the impact of the media, substance abuse, suicide, sex, and violence are a few of the topics covered during this exciting, fun-filled weekend.
