Like many disillusioned moderates, I was all set to vote Democratic for governor this fall. That is, until the brilliant braintrust of Democrats in this state gave their endorsement to Mike Hatch, possibly the most unlikable politician in Minnesota.
Kicking a public servant on his way out of office wouldn't have been considered acceptable political conduct in Minnesota as recently as — well, May 21. On that last day of the 2006 legislative session, the public show of bipartisan appreciation at the Capitol for all who left their private pursuits to serve, and are now retiring, was admirable.
