In this precarious socio-economic climate it is imperative to find a reason to celebrate. What better reason to celebrate than the resurgence of Harlem. Harlem, once the mecca of everything Black and everything haute or cutting edge is on the rise once again. Harlem is fast becoming a reflection of the cosmopolitan that is New York. So on this tidal wave of promise that is engulfing us, we present to you the first annual Miss Harlem USA pageant. Unlike other pageants, it is a celebration, an event that glorifies all the women that color Harlem. We welcome all women between the ages of 18-30 of all complexions who wish to break bread with us and say, “I love my Harlem”.
There is a certain prestige in being Miss Harlem USA – a responsibility that goes without mention. It is being the first to espouse the hopes of a community and the promise of an always better tomorrow. It is the weight of maintaining excellence in spite of all obstacles that present themselves. That is the spirit of Harlem that is in every alleyway, every park, every church and in all the eyes that stare back at us as we traverse these streets
