Cheraw is one of South Carolina's oldest and most picturesque inland towns. The town began around 1740 as a small trading post at the head of navigation on the Great Pee Dee River. It was named after the Cheraw Indians who lived here. Cheraw is a small city of about 6,000 great people, and can be easily reached via U.S. Highways 1 and 52, or S.C. Highway 9. Conveniently located in the heart of the Olde English Tourism District, Cheraw is about one hundred miles from Charlotte, Columbia, and Myrtle Beach.
