- Dr. Jacqueline Stewart wanted to be a veterinarian since she was 6 years old. She got sidetracked in college due to the times. There weren’t many women in veterinary school when she was 6 years old and she was advised to pursue something else. She was talented at mathematics and decided to pursue that. During her undergraduate years she found out that there were more women in the medical fields than there used to be and she could be a veterinarian. So she graduated from the University of Colorado with a Bachelors degree in Mathematics and the requirements fulfilled to get into Veterinary school. She earned her D.V.M. at Colorado State University in 1986. She attended an Acupuncture seminar at CSU in 1996 and was thrilled at the possibilities. As many health workers know there are many conditions for which conventional medicine has no good answers. Alternative medicine (or complementary medicine as she prefers to call it) had the possibility to help or even cure many otherwise frustrating conditions. “Dr. Jackie” then decided to learn more. She completed the first Acupuncture class given at Colorado State University in 1997 and became certified with the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society in 1999. During the Acupuncture class, a demonstration given by Allen Schoen (well known author of many alternative medicine books) convinced her that Chiropractic training was her next goal. She attended the first Veterinary Manual Therapy class given at CSU in 2000 and 2001. During the chiropractic class she learned about Applied Kinesiology from Carl Steffano and Dan Martin. They then gave a veterinary applied kinesiology conference in 2002 which she attended. Knowing that the future of health will include alternative medicine but not exclude conventional medicine, Dr. Jackie has adopted an integrative approach to animal health. She integrates alternative modalities such as acupuncture, chiropractic, applied kinesiology, nutrition, herbs and glandular supplements with standard medicine and surgery. She has operated her own housecall business in the Parker area, southeast of Denver since 1988.
