About Mold

Mold is the County town of Flintshire and as the largest historic market town in this County is also a major cultural centre of North Wales.

Mold certainly seems to punch above its weight in terms of restaurants, shopping, and cultural activities. The town centre has Traditional, Italian, Malaysian, Indian and Chinese restaurants and there are some excellent restaurants located further out of the parish in some of the old inns eg The Druid at Pontblyddyn and The Miners Arms at Maeshafn. The shopping centre is expanding and includes no less than three of the major supermarket chains. The town is a hive of activity on market days which are Wednesday and Saturday. Of particular importance to the town as a cultural centre was the decision to locate the Clwyd Theatr Cymru in Mold, overlooking the Alyn valley. Therefore, Mold has its own national producing theatre and the theatre building also houses a cinema, and hosts music recitals and art exhibitions.

The headquarters of Flintshire County Council (formerly Clwyd County Council) are also located in the town. The town has a population of around 10,000 and has reached out to the limits of its green belt.
