Title

Mooswah Antler Art

Description

Dieter “Mooswah” Flammenspeck was born in Germany in 1948. He trained as draftsman and later became involved with the German Army in an administrative position. During a 5 year job posting in Manitoba, Canada, Dieter fell in love with this great country. 1988 he quit his job and immigrated with his family. From early age on, he felt drawn to the arts and experimented in a number of different media until he found his calling when he started to carve in wood in the early eighties. Once in Canada, the wide availability of antlers provided him with a new challenge. Continuously improving his skill, his choice of tools also became more sophisticated. From using hand and simple power tools he advanced to a dremel and a dentist’s drill for very fine detail. After seeing some of the work, a Cree Indian chief in northern Alberta, officially named Dieter “Mooswah”, meaning moose.
