MoveVandalism

The best way to fix vandalism that includes a move is to move the page back first, over the redirect, then to revert to a good version in the history.

If a System Administrator deletes the bad page instead while re-creating the good page by copy/pasting from the bad page history, it gets a bit more complicated. Here are the steps (please update if needed):

  1. delete the correctly named article
  2. restore the incorrectly named article that was deleted (this one has the bulk of the history)
  3. move the incorrectly named article to the correct name
  4. delete the newly-correctly named article again
  5. restore the correctly named article (this brings in both histories)
  6. the last step is one I forgot, which is to delete the incorrectly named redirect that's left over - not sure if this matters

Maybe an example here would help?

Let's say the page vandalized is called ReallyGoodPage. It's edited to include a nasty image and then moved to ReallyNastyPage.

The good way to fix this is to move ReallyNastyPage to ReallyGoodPage over the redirect, then delete ReallyNastyPage and restore ReallyGoodPage to a previous version that's good.

Sometimes a System Administrator will simply pull a good version of ReallyGoodPage from the history of what's now ReallyNastyPage and copy/paste that to be the current version of ReallyGoodPage while deleting ReallyNastyPage which contains all of the history of ReallyGoodPage. That's when the numbered steps above are needed.
