- The Music Box began its life as a hard-copy newsletter that was distributed at a variety of local and national concerts, through local record stores, and through the Connecticut-based company Terrapin Tapes.
- The Music Box joined the internet community in 1997 and converted to an e-zine format in 2003. The publication does not accept advertising of any kind; it is supported entirely through the support of its readers.
