Yorkshire-bred, London-based Rock ‘n’ Roll photographer Ami Barwell has been shooting within the music industry for the past 10 years. Striking and atmospheric, honest & sexy; her photographs seek out and capture their subjects’ soul. Ami’s ability to capture the raw essence of her subject on film has earned her a solid reputation as one of the World's leading music photographers. Her photography, both portraiture and live, has gained Worldwide critical acclaim. It encapsulates the true spirit of rock 'n' roll - passion, emotion, sex, sweat and soul.
Ami’s wide range of clients include EMI, Virgin, SONY BMG, Classic Rock Magazine, Warners, The Grammy Awards, Oyster Magazine, Universal and Atlantic records. Working with artists as diverse as Radiohead, Ian Brown, Iggy Pop, Lenny Kravitz, Interpol, Editors, REM, The Hives, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kasabian, Franz Ferdinand, Paul Weller, Kings of Leon, Snow Patrol, New York Dolls and The White Stripes.
Her photographs have a feel and depth that takes you into the shot, as if you were present at that very moment they were taken. She is well known for album and single cover images for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Interpol, Editors, The Cooper Temple Clause, The Cribs, Bernard Fanning of Powderfinger and emerging talent such as Cage The Elephant.
Ami has traveled the World as a tour photographer with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Snow Patrol, Ian Brown, The Cooper Temple Clause, The Blood Brothers and others.
Working with BRMC as their Official Photographer for 5 years – she documents everything from relaxed personal shots, candid tour-bus antics, intimate backstage emotions and raw, high-energy live shots – in a way no-one else could. A catalyst for the camera shy.
