HOUSTON - KRIV FOX 26 first went on the air as KVRL in August 1971 but soon changed its call letters to KDOG. During its early days in Houston, Channel 26 aired a wide variety of programs in both English and Spanish. It was May 1978 when Metromedia bought the channel and changed its call letters to what it is known as today -- KRIV. The call letters were based off the name of one of the company's executives.
