Description
Bankruptcy trustees are an integral part of the bankruptcy system. Trustees are appointed in every chapter 7 (liquidation) case to investigate the assets of the debtor, hold initial meeting of creditors, conduct bankruptcy sales, investigate claims and pay creditors. During the 12 months ended June 30, 2002, Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustees closed 37,518 asset cases and disbursed $1.45 billion dollars. Of this amount, Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Trustees disbursed 71% to creditors of the bankruptcy estate.
