With these few words Olga Katjiuongua spells out what the Namibia Community-Based Tourism Association (NACOBTA) has decided at its Annual General Meeting and in follow-up talks during the past weeks. 'With this the ground for NACOBTA’s future is prepared.'
The Namibian government intends to allow the commercial cultivation of the desert plant Hoodia gordonii, a trunk succulent containing appetite-suppressing substances. In December 2004 the government approved a planned agreement with Phytopharm, a British pharmaceuticals company, about supplying cultivated Hoodia. This paves the way for worldwide marketing of a natural drug against obesity.
The 45th anniversary of the uprising at the Old Location in Windhoek was observed in Namibia on 10 December. The ceremony took place at the former township’s cemetery in the presence of President Sam Nujoma.
