Nature's Way

Description

The history of a company can not only influence its culture, but it can often define its very soul. As such, the origin of Nature’s Way is an incredibly unique story within the nutrition and dietary supplement industry. As one of the few original health food industry pioneers still in operation, the company has been in business since 1969.

The company was not founded, funded or owned by pharmaceutical giants, public shareholders or investment bankers. Rather, the motivation for Nature’s Way is rooted in a family’s desperate need to address a personal health crisis. Tom Murdock, the original founder of what is now Nature’s Way, sought a solution to help his gravely ill wife. Fresh out of conventional options, he turned to the Native American knowledge of the plants in the Arizona desert. And as the saying goes, the rest is history. Not only did Tom’s wife recover from her illness, but she lived an additional 25 years.

A few year’s after the Murdock family’s discovery, word had spread among friends, family, and the Southwestern U.S. community. What other treasures grew in the Arizona desert? Tom Murdock and the newly formed Nature’s Way team were about to find out. As a result, eight simple herbal products were soon offered to health food shops in the local market. The original products were crude in their formulation, packaging and marketing, but significant as icons of the power of Mother Nature. And these products were nothing less than the foundation of the renaissance of the herbal supplement industry in America.

REVIEW OF NATURESWAY

Nature’s Way products have been around since 1969 and, as many inventions are, were born out of necessity. Founder Tom Murdoch looked to Native American wisdom and practices in healing in the Arizona desert to help his seriously ill wife when conventional medicine was not healing her. This led to what is now an herbal company with over 500 nutritional supplements located in Springville, Utah.

REVIEW OF Nature's Way

Nature’s Way is a manufacturer of weight loss supplements and nutrition products. According to their web description, this company was founded back in 1969 and “was not founded, funded or owned by pharmaceutical giants, public shareholders or investment bankers.” Though, this company does claim to be an “industry leader” and claims to have the most “innovative products” despite their use of common and lackluster formulas. Nature’s Way weight loss products include Herbal Slim® Tonalin® XS CLA™, Glucomannan Root, Hoodia Standardized Extract, Bitter Orange Standardized Extract, Siberian Eleuthero Standardized Extract, DIM-plus Estrogen Metabolism Formula, Green Tea Standardized Extract, Metabolic Reset Shakes, Chlorofresh®, Hydraplenish™, Red Yeast Rice, and CoQ10. Herbal Slim® is one of Nature’s Way’s weight loss supplements. It is made up of Licorice Root, Dandelion Root, Beet Root, Kelp, Burdock Root, Parsley Leaf, Siberian Eleuthero Root, Fennel Seed, Black Walnut Hull, Papaya Leaf and Hawthorne Berry. Tonalin® XS CLA™ is another weight loss supplement with Conjugated Linoleic Acid. It was found in higher quantities in beef when cattle grazed on natural grass. As mass production of beef resulted in less natural grazing, the CLA content of beef declined, which has been one explanation to the increase in obesity in the U.S. Adding CLA to the diet is said to result in a leaner, more muscular body. For an even stronger effect, Nature’s Way has CLA-1300, with 1300 milligrams of Conjugated Linoleic Acid in the patented form of Clarinol™ CLA. Hoodia Standardized Extract is a 20:1 mixture of Hoodia to Glucomannan. Hoodia is a natural appetite suppressant harvested in South Africa and has been used by Africans for thousands of years as an appetite suppressant. Nature’s Way has combined this with Glucomannan, an ingredient high in fiber taken from the Konnuaku Root in the yam family. Glucomannan helps reduce cholesterol and maintains bowel health. Ultimately, we are not too impressed by the ingredients utilized by Nature’s Way. This company does use stimulants and diuretics, both of which nutritionists do not recommend for long term usage. Stimulants have been shown to cause adverse side effects, such as jitteriness, nausea and insomnia—while diuretics can deplete the body of essential minerals and vitamins. Though, we do believe that natural supplements can augment weight loss programs. However, we find that complete formulations are the most effective, and none of the products produced by Nature’s Way appear to contain complete formulations, which we consider to be a patented fat burner and proven appetite suppressant.
