Like all historical accounts, which depend primarily on oral sources, the origin and history of Ibusa are not definitive. There are however sections of convergence with a few divergences here and there. Most popular accounts trace the founding of Ibusa to around 1500 AD (some say between 1200 and 1300 AD) to Prince Umejei, the crown prince of Isu (some claim Isunambogu).
