Title

Nettleton Hollow / Decorative Branches and other Lasting Botanical Material

Description

Nettleton Hollow was launched in March 2005 by Justin Brandreth Potter. While decorating his first post-college apartment, Justin found that despite the extensive use of branches and other lasting botanical material by interior designers, there were no sites focused on retailing the items. Some large home furnishing companies had a very limited selection of branches casually added alongside their manufactured products, and dried floral suppliers sold to crafters on sites geared towards people already familiar with the items. Neither source was ideal, and Nettleton Hollow was conceived to fill this void.

Natural botanical material is like produce -- no two items are exactly the same, and there is often significant variation within the same batch of inventory. This poses unique challenges, starting with how an item is represented on the site. In our descriptions, we provide ranges rather than a single number. On many sites, you'll see descriptions like "48 in. Curly Willow," which could give the impression that all of the branches in a bundle are 48 inches long, whereas in reality only a few will be. All photography is done in-house, so if we receive a batch of inventory that is significantly different from what is shown on the site, we can replace the image within hours. With the site providing the parameters, every single item we receive is carefully inspected, and those that we find acceptable are measured, trimmed and re-bundled as necessary.

Packing natural botanical material for shipment demands great care. For many items, simply surrounding them with crumpled paper isn't sufficient, as it won't fully prevent the movement that can damage them. For such items, we secure them to the interior of the box so what you receive should be in the same condition it was when it left our warehouse.
