News Corporation was established in 1980 by Rupert Murdoch as a holding company for News Limited. In 1986 and 1987, News Corp shifted its focus to realigning the production process of its British newspapers. Till now, the printing unions had tried to keep a strong grasp over the newspapers. Murdoch ushered in John Dux who was then the Managing Director of the South China Post, along with many senior Australian media moguls. This led to a direct confrontation between them and the printing unions. The move of News International’s London operation to Wapping, led to bitter fights with the printing unions. Eventually the unions were outnumbered and soon other media companies also followed Murdoch’s lead.
