About Us
Hi, my name is Nicky Garbutt, and I was born in 1970, in Tanfield Lea, Stanley, Co. Durham. I always intended becoming a vet, but was too busy with my pony, and breeding English rabbits, to revise - needless to say, I didn't get the 'O' level results that I needed. After leaving school, I worked as a groom, (in Stockton, then up in Scotland) mainly show-jumping, but eventing and in-hand showing as well, before coming back home and starting work at a car-making factory in 1992. I worked there building engines, and it was there that I met Steve. We married in February, 1996, and Luke was born on 8th April, 1997, followed by his brother James on 1st January, 2000. We live in Chester-le-Street, in Co. Durham, England.
I am now a full-time housewife, looking after Luke, James and the dogs (and Steve!), though in my spare time (what spare time??!) I am one half of the successful K9 Kreativity web design team and we've designed and built sites for many of the UK's top kennels/breeders.
Although my family have always had dogs (mainly working gundogs, as my Dad shoots), I first became involved with showing them in 1990, when I went to work for Raymond and Shoana Blin (Craigenbay). I went there as a groom, to look after the horses, but the job also involved looking after their dogs, mainly German Shepherds, but a Saint Bernard as well. The GSD's were all gold sable, and were (if I remember correctly), Craigenbay Just a Boy (CC & reserve CC winner), his mum, Francesca of Threepwood, and his daughter, Velindre Ajante (ex Velindre Vanity Fair) joined them later in the year. The Saint Bernard (Bavush Craigenbay) thought that she was a GSD as well. We had an occasional quiet weekend, in between all the horse shows, and I got to attend one or two dog shows.
