In 1983, National Power Chair began rebuilding motors for retail dealers selling electric wheelchairs. Back then, there were 3 different motors offered on any of the models of chairs sold in America. Things were easy.
Over the years, manufacturers have demanded that motor makers come up with new designs that are less expensive, stronger, and lighter. Low and behold, 19 years later, there have been 105 different models made. During that time, we kept up with the changes, and now supply 1,800 wheelchair repair shops from coast to coast with rebuilt motors, gearboxes, batteries and battery chargers.
In 1997, National sold its first pair of motors to Patrick Campbell, He soon after spread the news to Don Hutson and Christian Carlberg about our supply of wheelchair motors. With Don and Christian’s help and the magic of the internet, the information moved to hundreds of builders throughout the country. In 2001 we split the robotic products portion to become an independent company, NPC Robotics. Rebuilt sales hit its peak in 2001 when we sold so many motors and gearboxes, that we ran out.
