- In an effort to answer questions like these, the NNGA has set up cultivar committees to compile information about varieties of each nut, varieties of pawpaw, and varieties of persimmon. A committee exists for each of the following nuts and minor fruits: beech, butternut, chestnut, ginkgo, hazel, heartnut, hican, hickory, oak, pawpaw, northern pecan, persimmon, pine nut, black walnut, Persian walnut, and hybrid and miscellaneous species of walnut.
