OCSC started in 1979 on the Alameda Estuary with one instructor, a borrowed J/24, and a simple idea: To teach sailing to clients the way we would teach a friend to sail. Since then, a lot has changed. We moved to Berkeley to take advantage of the best winds on the Bay; we have a fleet of over 40 yachts, from 24' to 46'; and we have a staff which includes fifty instructors, all professional sailors and certified instructors. But through this growth, one thing has not changed at all: We are still committed to teaching sailing as if we were teaching a friend.
