Title edit
Østfold FN-Veteranforening
Description edit
The Norwegian Association of UN-Veterans (NAUVN) was first organized in 1960, forur years after Norway for the first time (apart from NORMASH, Korea) participated in a UN Peacekeeping misson with military units. The mission at that time was UNEF 1 (United Nations Emergency Force) in Gaza, a mission which lasted from 1956-1967.
During the first 18 years, the organization was stricktly for officers and NCOs, but in 1988 it opened up for membership for all ranks who serve or have served with UN. Further, in 1996 membership was extended also to include all international operations/service under the command of NATO, and to-day the same applies to all other forms for international service.
To organize UN- and NATO veterans, that is veterans from all sorts of international service where Norway as such has participated, in order to promote comradeship and stimulate initiative to form local veteran clubs as chapters of the national organisation. In august 2005 there are a total of 44 chapters all over the country with a total of approximately 7.200 members
