Hugh had dogs all his life, until the last one passed away a few years ago. After that, a decision was made to go pet-less for awhile, until a persistent little vagabond wandered up the driveway on a fall day. But it wasn't a tail-wagging canine, it was a loud-mouthed half-grown cat whose haughty tail pointed skyward.
"Living up to my resolution, I tried to ignore him," Hugh explains. "After all, the little hobo looked like a world traveler–maybe he'd move on. A couple of days later, he was back, looking thin and hungry with a mouth as loud as ever. But the thing that really broke me–that arrogant tail was drooping. So, first came food and water, then petting–that sealed it. How can you ignore a cute little fellow with hungry eyes yearning for affection?"
