Office of the Prime Minister
Description
The Prime Minister of Malta is both the head of government and a minister in his own right with portfolio responsibilities for strategic matters such as the Public Service, defence, EU negotiations and the management of EU structural funds among other matters.
Most of these portfolio responsibilities are administered through the Office of the Prime Minister, commonly known as OPM or simply "Kastilja". OPM's mission is to support the Prime Minister in providing leadership and direction for a stable and effective government.
OPM is the hub and nerve centre of the Government. It plays a central role in decision-making, particularly through the Cabinet Secretariat, and it is also the administrative headquarters of the Government (a role encapsulated in the Office of the Principal Permanent Secretary, the Management and Personnel Office and the Central Information Management Unit among others).
